SRMG Academy is launching its signature six-month Boot Camp training programme for young Arab journalists in 2023.
The rigorous course involves two months of hands-on classroom training for 20 candidates and a four-month rotation program at some of SRMG’s most prominent publications and platforms. At the end of the period, successful participants will be offered employment at some of these publications based on talent and needs.
The programme is led by some of the world’s top journalists and industry experts who have previously held senior positions in leading international media organisations. They will provide students with the very best theoretical and practical knowledge about the world of journalism and digital content creation.
Alaa is SRMG’s head of editorial training and content development. He joined the group after spending more than 20 years at top international news organizations including Bloomberg, Reuters and the Associated Press. His most -recent position was managing editor for European economics at Bloomberg News.
Nadim is a veteran Lebanese journalist and editor. He joined SRMG after an illustrious career that spanned more than three decades covering some of the most notable conflicts and stories in the region for Reuters. He was also editor-in-chief of the Daily Star, Lebanon’s most prominent English-language publication.
Martin is a proven leader in communications acquired in higher education, international journalism and digital editorial development. He worked as BBC Middle East correspondent and head of its Arabic service. He also teaches at the BBC Academy for journalism.
Keith is one of the UK’s most experienced journalism trainers. His career at Reuters includes high-profile postings in Washington DC, Tokyo and Singapore. He has trained more than 1,000 journalists at the news agency. Throughout his career, he has reported from over 20 countries, and coached and taught in more than 30.
Mario is a Professor of Journalism at Columbia University, wherehe teaches a post-graduate course on Writing for Mobile. Mario has worked as a design/editorial consultant in 120 countries, with projects for The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, South China Morning Post (Hong Kong), among others.
The programme will include the basics of journalistic work, such as writing news, undertaking investigations and research, and interviewing skills. In addition, students will be trained in emerging disciplines of digital media and multimedia journalism.
